When it comes to catering a holiday get together, it’s important to add at least one vegetarian item to the menu, especially if you aren’t familiar with the dietary restrictions of your guests. In addition to ensuring the meat-free eaters in your crowd will have something to nosh on, bulking up the party edibles with vegetables will also aid in keeping the cost down, while ensuring your guests are filled with fibrous, tasty snacks. Here’s a look at 6 of our favourite mushroom-based appetizers that are sure to delight eaters of all ages:

Tuscan Stuffed Ontario Mushrooms

These Tuscan Stuffed Ontario Mushrooms can be prepped ahead of time, but only bake them just before serving. These are great to serve as an appetizer or as even as a side dish! If you are hosting a large crowd, this recipe can easily be doubled.

Ontario Mushroom Sliders

Mushrooms have a naturally meaty flavour that makes a tasty component for some party appetizers! Please omnivores and herbivores alike with these Ontario Mushroom Sliders and top with great complement flavours like cheese and tomato.

Creamy Leek and Mushroom Vol au Vents

Vol au vents are a classic party hors d’oeuvre and the combination of leeks and mushrooms with flaky puff pastry is irresistible. Leeks provide a mellow sweet flavour that shines among the cooked mushrooms. You can serve these as large vol au vents for a light meal, or create smaller sized ones for appetizers or party hor d’oeuvres.

Ontario Mushroom Bruschetta

These mushroom and tomato topped crostini can also be served sprinkled with grated Parmesan cheese and heated until cheese melts.

Ontario Asparagus and Mushroom Tart

With the holiday season here, plenty of people are bringing rich casseroles and creamy side dishes, but you can indulge in something crisp and flaky that’s full of flavour and not too heavy on the cream. Serve this beautiful Asparagus and Mushroom Tart at your next holiday party as an appetizer or cut into even smaller pieces as an hors d’oeuvre. Happy Holidays!
