This rustic compote features the mellow sweetness of plums and their tender texture when gently cooked. Lemon and sugar bring out the naturally beautiful plum notes and make this plum compote just delicious with your favourite cheese and crackers. Use a combination of plums to make a unique blend of flavours! We used a half red and black plums in this compote which gave off this bright, ruby colour!
- 4 cups of roughly chopped red and/or black plums with peels (aim for 3/4 inch chunks)
- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Optional: a pinch of cinnamon or a cinnamon stick
- In medium saucepan, combine all ingredients over medium heat and cook until just soft, about 5-10 minutes. Do not overcook. Let cool and serve with your favourite cheese and crackers. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
