The holidays mean that there are lots of indulgent treats and rich dinners. Have no fear! Here are some ways to make those baked goods and dinners healthier so you can enjoy the holidays without too much guilt.

Here we’ve got some daily tips for making the holidays healthier!

Add flavour with herbs and spices

Indian Spiced Trout with Cucumber Raita

Use fresh or dried herbs and spices to flavour your dishes, like this Indian Spiced Trout, so you don’t need to use as much salt. Try buying fresh rosemary or fresh thyme and tie them into a small bouquet to add flavour to your stock or turkey! Or better yet, add chopped herbs and more spices into your casseroles.

Bake with Purées:

Many of your favourite cake recipes will work deliciously when you sub out eggs or oil (but not both) with fruit or veggie purées, like pumpkin purée. Try replacing ¼ cup of oil with ¼ cup applesauce or pureed beets to cake recipes to add extra fibre and moisture. You may need to add a little extra baking time but it’s worth it!
