Watermelon Serving Ideas
Watermelon wedges are delicious on their own, but if you ever want to try something new, try dipping the watermelon wedges in chili salt, which is very popular in Vietnam. Just a little bit on where you take a bite adds a little extra flavour and kick.
You could serve balled melon in a watermelon bowl for a fun presentation. Tossed in with some berries, almonds or even coconut flakes, this makes a colourful, healthy and tasty salad or light dessert. Carefully scoop out the melon from one half of the watermelon and use this as the bowl! Before you fill it up, cut a small slice off the bottom of the “bowl” to keep it flat and level.
Cube watermelon and feta cheese, and add fresh chopped basil. Drizzle with a balsamic reduction (store bought, or homemade) and you have the perfect summer salad!
Watermelon carvings are fun ways to use a watermelon!
Try watermelon grilled! The heat makes the sugars caramelize for an extra dimension of flavour.
Or better yet, you can blend up watermelon into an agua fresca, add a little lime juice, and liquid sweetener if your watermelon isn’t as sweet as you’d like it to be. You can serve it over ice on its own or even turn it into a cocktail for the adults.
Watermelon freezes well. Leftovers from a large watermelon can be pureed and frozen to make heathy popsicles, add yogurt to taste if you want to get fancy. It can also be frozen as “ice cubes” which adds flavour and interest to water and fruit drinks.
