Sweet Potato Chicken Jalapeno Chili

Spice up game day with some hearty sweet potato chicken jalapeno chili! It’s comforting, full of flavour, and has a bit of a kick to it to warm you up from the inside out! With sweet potatoes, chicken, and beans, this chili will fill you up, while being nutritious and easy to make.

  • 2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Red Pepper, chopped
  • 1 Rib Celery, chopped
  • 2 Jalapenos, seeded and finely chopped
  • 3 Cloves Garlic
  • 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Each Salt & Pepper
  • 1 Pinch Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Lb. Ontario Sweet Potatoes, peeled and cubed into 3/4 inch pieces
  • 1 Can Diced Tomatoes
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 cups Shredded Cooked Chicken
  • 1 Can Black Beans, drained & rinsed
  • 2 Tablespoons Lime Juice
  • 2 Tablespoons Chopped Fresh Cilantro
  • (Optional) Sour Cream to Taste

Instructions

  1. Step 1

    Heat oil in Dutch oven or large saucepan set over medium heat.
  2. Step 2

    Add onion, red pepper, celery, jalapeno and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until vegetables start to soften.
  3. Step 3

    Add chili powder, cumin oregano, salt, pepper and cinnamon. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 2 minutes or until fragrant.
  4. Step 4

    Add tomato paste and cook for 1 minute more.
  5. Step 5

    Stir in sweet potatoes, tomatoes, chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce; bring to a boil.
  6. Step 6

    Reduce heat to medium-low and stir in chicken and black beans.
  7. Step 7

    Simmer for 40 to 45 minutes or until sweet potatoes are tender and chili is flavourful.
  8. Step 8

    Stir in lime juice and cilantro. Serve with sour cream, if desired.
