Ontario Tender Fruit Torte
Ontario Tender Fruit is in season, and this torte dessert is the perfect finish to any meal! We’ve used fresh Ontario plums in this recipe, but you can swap out for peaches, nectarines, or even cherries!

- 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter, Softened
- 2 Large Eggs, Room Temperature
- 1 Tsp. Lemon Zest
- 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Pinch Salt
- 1 Pinch Freshly Grated Nutmeg
- 12-14 Ontario Blue or Purple Plums, Halved & Pitted
- To Finish Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
- To Finish Turbinado Sugar
- For Serving Vanilla Ice Cream
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350(f) degrees. Grease & line a 9-inch round cake pan (or spring form pan).Step 2
In a medium size mixing bowl cream together sugar & butter until fluffy. Add the eggs, vanilla extract & lemon zest. Beat until smooth.Step 3
Sift in flour, baking powder, salt & nutmeg. Mix until dough comes together.Step 4
Transfer batter to prepared cake pan & smooth the batter into an even layer. Top with a layer of plum halves flesh side down.Step 5
Finish with lemon juice & a generous sprinkle of turbinado sugar. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, until golden & cooked throughout.Step 6
Let cool to room temperature before slicing & serving. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
